Strapsense Gear Report

All strapsense photography content is original and for better or worse shot by myself unless otherwise noted in the comments. It occurred to me that unlike some other websites that consistently show brilliant photography and never tell you how they made those shots, I wanted to let my readers know what I used to make my pictures for those rare times I manage to snag something truly special.

Sony A6000 – image from Amazon

I recently upgraded to a new Sony A6000 for most of my shots with a few iPhone 8 shots slipped in when needed. I started off using the kit lenses which were adequate, but later started to collect a few fixed focal length lenses for those more dramatic close ups.  When shooting indoors, I use a very inexpensive lightbox for all my photos and recently picked up a turntable for trying out some videos.  I will post links to what I use to shoot my photos below. Thanks for reading my watch strap blog, I could not do this without support and encouragement from my readers.  Keep the comments coming!

Sony A6000 Grey body camera kit.  This came with the usual useful kit stuff like batteries, charger, bag, and memory card along with the seldom useful stuff like filters and wipes and plastic tripids that are generally just eye candy for amazon photos. But the core stuff is worth it.

I next bought a fixed 50mm lens that greatly increased the clarity of what I can do: It is a Sony E 50 F1.8 lens. I really love this one for general shooting

Wanting something that could shoot a bit closer, I went to my local best buy and bought a 35mm fixed lens as well, but you can get these also on Amazon.

I mentioned I use a light box to help me shoot products as well as a turntable. Nothing fancy for either. I bought a budget version of each.

Nothing fancy on any of this. I picked the Sony A6000 as it was highly recommended for both pictures and HD video that could be used for movies and youtube videos. Without spending a fortune, you get a camera that can really do it all. Likewise, the online support for the A6000 is incredible. Answers are abundant for all the common questions and experts can take you through what you really need to know to get the most of your Sony.

Hope that helps you to take great photos of your products!  This the Strapsense setup as of July 8th, 2019.
